Well, I am good with the Hawks trading up to get Hunter and Reddish with the 10th overall
Would have been nice to have Jaxon Hayes but he got taken at 8th by the Pels, in the end the Hawks have alot to be excited about in this draft with HUnter and Reddish
Man, having the PF as Collins and Hunter at SF. And Trey and Huerter at the guards, be decent at center and that is some starting lineup for the futuer

And Trey and Huerter at the guards, be decent at center and that is some starting lineup for the futuer Hawks did everything about efficiently as you could where they were positioned. This class appears to be a meh class besides a few and they got two possible top 5's. We didn't get a center but centers aren't as important as they used to be. Hawks gave up a lot for 4 two first and 35 but we wasn't going to get our man at 35 anyways. Claxton and Fernando taken just before us in the 2nd round. We also traded two other 2nd's for money and later 2nd rounders, is looking like a great decision right now. Only thing I found like a tossup is Bol Bol and he just went 44 to Miami Denver Nuggets. His weight is my biggest issue, but man does he have a great shot for a big. I don't know much about Hunter, but I liked what I saw in the playoffs. I thought we was going Culver, so I pretty much just was prepared for him. Reddish could be HUGE for us. I don't think Duke was the right school for him playing with ball dominant players like Barrett and to an extent Zion. Also the Duke's coach seems to be passed his best days. He's been there an eternity Ok time to look more into Hunter, Reddish, and the players we could have drafted. EDIT Hawks traded up for Fernando. God this crap is confusing. NBA's board doesn't tell you what team they're really playing for, that's why it's confusing Ok now I got to readjust to what we traded to move up and who is really on our team.

Ok just noticed we also gave up next years Cleveland's protected 1st round pick also. That stings a little, but it's top 10 protected, meaning there's a 0% chance Pelicans will get Cleveland's pick next year or even the year after. I think after that it becomes two second round picks, and that would sting a little less if that's how it will turn out.
Edit: Ah we're taking Solomin Hill(salary dump) from NO the 57th pick and a future 2nd round pick too. So the trade is back to being more efficient for the Hawks.

Ok I've been overwhelmed (Thank God the Braves had an off day) Hawks picks Pick 4 - Deandre Hunter. Trade with Pelicans. Gave up 8, 17, 35. Got a salary dump player and 57 we lose Cleveland 1st round protected pick (which should turn into two second rounders).
Pick 10 - Cam Reddish. Got from the Luka trade. Young + Reddish > Doncic? Yes so far.
Pick 34 - Bruno Fernando. Trade with 76ers. Gave up 57 and two future seconds.
This is looking really good. I gotta look at where we stand for the future draft to get a better understanding where we'll be though. I kinda feel like we drafted Hunter over Culver so Reddish would drop to 10. Hawks should be way better of the defensive end next season. Offense should improve too.

De'Andre Hunter My initial reaction to De'Andre Hunter is he's poised. He moves like an old school player and is more sound in his shot selection than many of these young guys. Hunter is a bit older at 21. He's got height and size. Looks decent on transitions. Looks like he could finish better at the rim. Doesn't seem like a show boat. Hawks really liked his game or they wouldn't have traded up with so much given up.
Looking at Jarrett Culver he looks quicker than Hunter and can create shots, but shot selection doesn't look as good. Culver looks more explosive but a tad wild. NBA has him listed at 6'5 somewhere else it said he was 6'7. Hunter has him on weight and height (that's if he's 6'5). Culver might fit better in this era, but Hunter might fit better for the Hawks as a 3 and D. Culver kinda reminds me of John Collins with a bit better play making, it's a matter of hitting his shots.
Culver to me has more upside, lower floor, his game looks to put him at a higher risk of injury. He looks really good on the alley oops, similar to Collins. I'm not sure if that would go good in Atlanta with Collins and him competing for Trae's passes at the rim.
Hunter is known as the best defender in this class. I'll be searching for his defensive highlights for that. Culver is known as a two way player too though.
I'm feeling fundamentals with Hunter. Things like scoring with slight excitement but looking to defend soon after. Not over working yourself to score. Not scared to pass off. Jarrett is more energy, but I guess that could be both positive and negative.
Also it looks like Hunter was competing against better competition than Culver in his highlights.
Cam Reddish My thoughts on Cam Reddish is he has all the tools to be a star, but does he have the basketball IQ and can he handle the spotlight. Playing on a team of Zion and Barrett had to be a bit confusing, frustrating, and overwhelming. Zion a finisher and a bit raw, Barrett's ball dominant and polarizing, finding his role had to be a bit chaotic, and just with the press he's portrayed as a great 3rd best. He's known for his smooth shooting and can do many things on the dribble. He has range and is athletic. Being on a bigger court might do wonders for him. He needs to become a better finisher at the rim and shoot under pressure. Other things he can work on is his footwork, dribble, and awareness. Just overall basketball IQ.
He admitted to playing lazy at Duke. I hope that's a sincere reason to get better and just not an excuse. He has a chance to open up the court along with Trae and he can play the D if he has the heart. He can steal and block. Those two will play huge transition defense.
Hopefully Vince comes back another year. I think he played huge for growth of our young players. Also I think Trae can teach him a thing or two after his own growth on offense.
Bruno Fernando All I've been hearing about the past month on the Hawks board is Bruno Fernando. As much as people wanting him drafted at 10. I've purposely avoided looking at his highlights because I didn't think we'd draft him and I didn't want to be disappointed.
Anyways my first thoughts on him is energy and a finisher at the rim. He dunks hard and has the size to push people around. Get a mismatch and it's going to be embarrassing for the other team. He has a spark to get the fans going. It looks like anything Trae throws up he'll be able to dunk it. Not sure about his defense, but he looks like a good blocker. We got a steal at 34, he should have been top 20. I guess the only downside is centers aren't seen as important in the NBA, but that's the reason we got him. Maybe once the GSW vanish we'll see the post make a comeback and he'll do a lot of damage. He looks passionate I just hope he isn't over the top where it gets him in trouble.

The Hawks have given me hope since day one of the ownership transfer from the Atlanta Spiritless to the Tony Ressler/Jamie Gertz group
They have done and said the right things, have invested in the facility and the infrastructure of the team (high quality practice facility, etc) and have had their heart in wanting to be great owners and wanting to bring a parade here
Its a matter of time the on court product is built up
I have liked Travis Schlenk - the only move he has made I did not like was having to take on the 3 yrs of Miles Plumlee's deal
Next yr Plumlee and Allen Crabbe are gone and they are done with the bad Solomon HIll money
I get they wanted to move Howard but taking on Plumlee, that was alot of bad money to take on
And maybe they can keep Bazemore but pay him what he is really worth

The center position has not been as relevant as it used to be for nearly 30 yrs now
Even the Bulls dynasty did not have a real stud at C
Hakeem and Shaq are the last great centermen to be important number one or two pieces on championship teams. Even Duncan and KG were more in the PF role
But I am glad they drafted Fernando, he should be a contributer
I think Dedmon is a decent center for what he does for this team - in todays game I would say he has worked his way to a high average -above average player
Now, if we can ever dump Miles Plumlee well - got to wait till next yr for that I never liked him

The draft made me excited enough for this team that I will most likely go to the home opener and it will be a packed out arena. I'm pumped.
Braves, Hawks, and even the Falcons are exciting teams right now. ATL UTD coming off a championship. It's a good time to be an Atlanta sports fan.
