Olson and Riley need to get their crap together and offer some measure of consistency. They should be the guys that really carry the offense and .238 and .240 with so many 0fer games isn't cutting it. These guys don't need to be the 2nd and 3rd spots right now.

Riley has been particularly bad. At least Olson is producing with his hits. Riley isn't.

Here I was concerned about their pitching. At least they didn’t let him do that as a Met

Riley since signing the extension has been pedestrian at best. And that ain't cuttin' it. And Harris... Remember him? He's the other guy who signed an extension. Well he has been horrid. These guys have to step it up...Harris in particular. Or he might find himself splitting time with Hilliard and Pillar.

Riley has been particularly bad. At least Olson is producing with his hits. Riley isn't. Riley has been particularly bad. At least Olson is producing with his hits. Riley isn't. He's still too inconsistent for me. Many railed on Dansby for his inconsistency even when he ended up batting a helluva lot higher than what we are getting from Olson right now. You are right about Riley though... he's been pretty dreadful. We have a lineup where 7-8-9 can carry us some nights, but at some point the guy batting 3rd needs to actually chip in with something, and while Olson produces on those occasions when he makes contact, that doesn't work for me in the 2 spot. I am not saying bench anyone by any means, but that is hurting us at spots 2 and 3. Even when we've been winning, it damn sure hasn't been because of Riley at the plate. I would also want to see in how many of our wins Ollie's production was the difference maker vs all the games we've lost while he has put up 0fers. I get OPS and OPS+ and all that, but I hate seeing so many games where they can't even manage a hit. We're 3-10 in games when Ollie went 0fer and we're 5-5 in games where Riley went 0fer.

Perhaps bump Ozzie to the 2 spot and Murphy to the 3 spot while bumping Olson and Riley to 4 and 5 respectively

If for some odd reason we don't want to acknowledge that hitting for more power matters, and just look at batting average, Dansby has career batting average of .256 and Olson is .249. I think OBP is more important than BA, Olson's career OBP is .344 and Dansby's is .324 (which is in fact all pretty similar). I do find it annoying and problematic how inconsistent Olson has been, so far I haven't harped on it like I did with Dansby because Olson has a career OPS of .849 (acknowledging power) and Dansby's is .741. And from my perspective, I watched Dansby do it for 6 years and so far I've watched Olson be equally inconsitent for a year and 6 weeks. Just speaking up as to why I'm not complaining about him yet.
And one other thought, I have complained a lot about Olson batting 2nd, that's asinine. Nobody who is inconsistent and K's a lot and is slow should bat second. Harris should bat second against RHP and Ozzie should bat second against LHP. My god that is so obvious it makes my brain ache, but Sargent Skidmarks is apparently never going to figure that out.

Just thinking about this some more and I felt compelled to take a look, here's this year's game logs for Olson and Dansby, I don't think anyone would argue about this being a typical up and down season for Dansby......and in fact this is probably in his favor because his BA and OPS are both well above his career standards........but here goes:
Olson just went hitless in back to back games, it's only the second time he's done that all year.
Dansby has gone hitless in back to back games 5 times this year and a whole other time went hitless in 4 straight games.
Not so sure their inconsistency is comparable.
What we do see, and what is probably leaving a bad taste for everybody, is that Olson has been average this year in medium leverage spots and terrible in high leverage. Last year he was a super stud in high leverage situations. He's only had 14 ABs this year in high leverage, maybe that's because the nincompoop managering guy has him batting second.
Dansby has been pretty good in medium leverage this year and terrible in high leverage this year, but also only has 14 high leverage ABs.

It's not a pro Dansby argument, and hitting for power does most certainly matter.
It's just Olson batting 2nd with those K's and Riley right now are way too often bystanders. Harris as well while we're at it.
If not for Murphy hitting out of his shoes and production from guys like Arcia, we would really be struggling offensively. Those guys are going to settle back down closer to their historical track record.
This team will really need Riley and Harris, and Olson isn't suited for #2.

Yeah, I don't know how you look at Olson and his numbers and determine that he's your 2 hole guy. Only in Sarge's mind, I guess. It doesn't matter what happens though, because he ain't gonna change it......unless the offense totally collapses and we lose 20 straight.

He Kd a lot, but that wasn't unexpected. He's been awful this year though and needs to get it together......soon.

Riley finished in the top 10 MVP voting two years in a row, I can give him a six week down time and expect him to bounce back.
HMF I wasn’t taking your comment as pro Dansby, I was just looking into a comparison of consistency between him and Olson. I knew Olson was inconsistent this year, but after looking at it he’s not been anywhere near as wildly up and down as Dansby. But the bottom line is everybody on the planet knows Olson shouldn’t bat second, except for one hard headed old man.
