I don't get that one at all. It looked to me like Conley was in the box and ready to hit. Isn't the guy hitting a minor leaguer used to that rule? The pitcher was just standing there. He ran to 1st like it was being called on the pitcher. He had no clue it was on him. The pitcher was on the rubber, the hitter was in the box and ready to hit, the catcher was standing up and was several feet out of his position when the ump made the call. The only one not ready was the catcher. I don't know what else Conley could have done. He was in his stance and ready. Really bizarre in my opinion.

That was an absolute travesty. Can't wait to see how fast that rule changes when it happens to the Yankees or Mets. They need to change the rule to if the batter has not used his allotted time out then that will be used in lieu of calling an automatic strike, especially an automatic strike 3. They keep finding more ways for an umpires judgement to affect the game. If he's not ready, so what! Just let the pitcher throw the pitch in the allotted time. Shouldn't matter if the guy is ready or not.

He has the bat in front of him and is looking at the pitcher before the umpire moves to call a strike.

I didn't notice that the catcher was still standing also up when the ump came out from behind the plate to call the automatic strike.

That YouTube video even has the clock up on the screen, Conley was as ready as can be when the clock turned to 8 seconds.
I wonder if that's going to be reviewable? There may not have been any reason to ask for a review today, other than setting a precedent maybe, but that's going to be even more of a farce if that's not reviewable.

How much more can they eff up what used to be a great game? They're just getting started. I predict a back breaker is going to be when they cut games to 7 innings.

This clock is hard to read, it kind of looks like it's on 6 seconds, but I guarantee it's on 8 seconds. If you play the video you can see that.
So what in the world was Conley doing wrong? How in the heck do you call a strike on him for not being ready within the 8 second limit. And isn't 8 seconds kind of crazy? I've been a yuge advocate for a million years for baseball to make hitters stop wasting so much time, but we've been talking about 20+ seconds between pitches. 8 seconds seems excessive to begin with.

They're turning our beloved game into a joke.

And, the irony of all this… During the regular season, this game would have gone into extra innings…isn’t the point of all this lunacy to shorten the game? Expect to hear lots of boos from the stands when the umps determine the outcomes even more than they already do.
