Hmmm. So you guys wanna pay one dude $40 million, which leaves, oh, maybe $80 million for 23 other guys after you take out Freddie's earnings. Really? Yeah, THAT'S how you build a good team right there!

Who has said they wanted to pay Harper $40m? Isn't it pretty well implied/understood he's going to get 10 years $400M?

No. Many have said he'll get a better deal than Stanton's, but there's are many deals in between 13-years at $325m and 10-years at $400m. Not saying the Braves should, or will, but there is a number the Braves can afford to offer and it not cripple the team's long-term outlook.

I think injury has to be a concern with Harper as well. Not that any dude can't get hurt, but in 6 full seasons, he's played in 768 games out of a possible 972. That's about 79%. 95% would be 154 games per year, which is what you might expect of a star player. In his MVP year of 2015, be played 153 games. Sooooooo.....when he plays, he's REALLY good, but wouldn't it be reasonable to expect injury issues to worsen as he ages? 5 years at $175 I can see, but 10 years at $350-$400? That's a helluva gamble on ANY player, IMO.

Maybe, but its not completely understood that while many Braves fans may think Harper is great player, I am not sure if they would want him if they have a realistic grasp of our gameplan/payroll.
