Braves are in the World Series, 1st time since 1999.
In the opener, Houston will start left-hander Framber Valdez against the Atlanta Braves. Valdez, 27, is coming off the best start of any pitcher this postseason after going eight innings and giving up just one run against the Red Sox in Game 5 at Fenway Park. He'll be opposed by Braves right-hander Charlie Morton.

Yep. It's real. I double checked when I got up this morning, and the Atlanta Braves really are playing in the World Series.
BTW, the Braves are 51-31 since the All-Star break. That's a .622 winning percentage, or a 101 win pace over a 162 game regular season. They're as good as anybody.

Houston Astros will meet Atlanta Braves without services of injured right-hander Lance McCullers Jr.HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros will be without the services of right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. after he declared himself out for the World Series on Monday. McCullers, 28, left Game 4 of the ALDS against the Chicago White Sox with forearm tightness and missed the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox, but remained hopeful he might return to the Fall Classic. He gave himself about a 1% chance, but doctors told him he needed 6-8 weeks before picking up a baseball. It has been only three. McCullers indicated he would be fully ready for spring training after a season in which he went 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA. The club hasn't decided if center fielder Jake Meyers will be available after he injured his left shoulder in the first round of the postseason. Rosters are due before Game 1 on Tuesday morning. In the opener, Houston will start left-hander Framber Valdez against the Atlanta Braves. Valdez, 27, is coming off the best start of any pitcher this postseason after going eight innings and giving up just one run against the Red Sox in Game 5 at Fenway Park. Gore in for Camargo Kyle Wright in for Webb I really don't get the Gore thing. I know he's fast on fast, and sure, that could pay off at some point, but it's like we're carrying one less hitter. Seems to me another capable bat is better than a fast munchkin.

Gore in for Camargo Kyle Wright in for Webb Gore in for Camargo is about dumb as shiite. If anything it should have been Pache.

Gore in for Camargo Kyle Wright in for Webb So now we have a roster spot for a pinch runner who would really only run for the catcher in the AL park, which could be 4 games, but we won't run for the catcher because we're only carrying two. He might run for Joc or for Soler if a particular situation arises, but that's about it. Pache could have been used as the designated pinch runner and had other possible uses as well.
We're insisting on keeping Arcia on the roster who is almost useless and had hardly any AB's the last two months, we're relying on Adrianza as our number 1 pinch hitter and he got hardly any ABs the last two months of the season, we tried to rely on Camargo out of nowhere after burying him in the minors the whole season, we're relying on a backup catcher who had hardly any major league AB's the last half of the season, and we're going to add Wright now, who has pitched 6 innings in the big leagues all year. Webb looked shaky the other day, but Wright has struggled at the big league level every time he's been given a chance, and now we're going to ask him to perform in the playoffs. And we still have Dylan Lee on the roster, who has pitched a grand total of 4 innings now in the big leagues and not been very good in that super small sample size. You can't have all these guys on your playoff roster and have every one of them rusty or inexperienced. It's just stupid, these guys should have been worked in better during the season so they could stay sharp and be ready.
