I remember back in the day when Chuck Tanner suggested using pitchers this way people thought he was crazy, and now it's commonplace.
Chuck Tanner also used a 3 man rotation for a time when he was the White Sox manager when he had Wilbur Wood, Stan Bahnsen and a young Tom Bradley.
Sort of worked out for one yr in '72 but his team ran out of gas vs the budding dynasty A's. He also used a 6 man rotation with the Pirates for a time in the late 70s, Bert Blyleven wanted to be traded
He was a bit to out of the box but had some success in the 70s, not so much in the 80s. He really did not have much to work with here.
