Marlins announcers pointed out today that our infield has missed a total of just 7 games, all of the players added together.
And a couple of those were only because Ozzie fouled that ball off of his kneecap.
That is simply retarded.
Yeah, it's not something to be proud of, especially as their manager. I don't think guys should start more than 150 games. I say start because of pinch hitting. If you start every regular 150 times, it leaves 12 games per starter for other guys. That's 84 games (I'm not counting the catcher). Personally, I'd make sure everybody got at least 1 start per week, but that's just me. That's funny because I was also thinking a guy should play about 150 games. Maybe 155 tops. But if you did play each infielder 150 games, that's 48 games for your #1 utility guy to start, which is almost a third of the games. Which would mean he would get two starts per week, and that's more in line with what I think your #1 utility player should get. With the pinch hitter appearances, it should come out to 300 AB's for that utility player. And I think that's about right. As we sit, Adrianza has 164 AB's this year, which is ridiculous. He had an .890 OPS in June and July combined, then got 14 AB's total in the month of August. Which is a point in the season where you most should be resting starters. It's just stupid, because you're going to have nights where that utility player is going to end up in the 8th or 9th inning having the most important AB in the game, and there he is having to go up with with no groove or comfort level at all. It's even more ridiculous when you consider that Adrianza can play the outfield also, and we spent half the season playing Almonte and Heredia over Adrianza in the outfield. Just terrible mishandling of players.

Adrianza is a perfect super utility type guy, and he almost always gives you a good at-bat. Snit is just a horrible manager. At the end of the season and in the playoffs, he winds up with exhausted starters and rusty backups. Pretty cool, huh?

Yeah but 30 years ago guys played every day, so..... I can remember some players playing every day, but I don't recall any teams where 6 or 7 guys played every day. Acuna would have if he hadn't been injured, and the wife beater would have too.

Yeah... I was being sarcastic
I went back and looked at the 75 WC Reds team that had 8 starters with really no platoon players at all. One player, Pete Rose, played 162 games. The average games played for the starting 8 was 142, so on average that was 20 games off for everybody.
The Braves have played 142 games, and Riley, Freeman, and Swanson have played 141 games, with Ozzie at 138 only because of injury.

I knew you were being sarcastic, I was addressing the same people you were. It just makes sense to rest your guys regularly, it’s such a long grind. Based on the way managers have always rested their starters, it’s safe to say that playing every one of them every day and pretty much every inning shows an inability to handle the role of being the boss. I also believe that takes its toll over the course of a players career. Freddie is 32 now, I know he’s always insisted on playing every inning, but if he doesn’t have the sense to rest more someone else has to make that choice for him. What happens is it hits them all at once, it’s not gradual. Look at Chipper as he got into his mid 30’s, he broke down fast and fought health for several years, and that’s common.

It's not up to the players how much they play and when they sit. At least it shouldn't be, but I have a feeling that's exactly how it is here.

All the prospect talk was moved to the prospect tread. These game day treads are gone after the next game and the prospect talk will hopefully continue.
I don't want the game treads to be the only ones that are used and have them be a catch all for everything. More active treads makes a better bored.
Thanks

Thanks I like that it seems that the reason why its all put on the game day tread is because we might think that is the only tread where discussion happens. I agree, other treads would be overall better for the board. Hey, without this forum, all of us from the old mlb board would not have a place to go. This has continued the fellowship for us Braves fans, and I think we all appreciate it. I shall post more on the prospect tread.
