David O'Brien @dobrienatl “There’s been some (velo decline). I was hoping that, with some time off, he’d get a little more fastball back tonight…It may be he had a limited year last year, and now it’s getting extended and that has something to do with it.” — Snitker on Smyly

Charlie Morton is the 16th pitcher in MLB history to strikeout 181+ batters in a pitcher’s age-37 season or older.

It seems to me his velocity has been normal for him, I don’t care to check. I don’t think it’s his problem, if it is I’ll bet it still won’t get him removed from the rotation.

They are making excuses for their boy.
His problem isn't velo... it's location.

They are making excuses for their boy. His problem isn't velo... it's location. Well I just had to take 10 minutes to look into it, this is all from Brooks Baseball--as I thought, Snitker is completely full of it.
Smyly's career fastball, average 91.34 mph:
Smyly's average fastball this season 92.07 mph:
Smyly's fastball Monday night average 91 mph and max 92.3 mph:

I also went back and looked at Smyly's last 5-6 starts before Monday and the velo was identical to Monday night, all year, and his entire career.
So our leader isn't just a moron he's also a liar.

You can be effective with a fastball like his if you can locate it, and I mean Greg Maddux locate it, but he can't. He doesn't just give up hits, he gives up bombs. Martin, Jackson, and Chavez shut them out the rest of the way. Smyly was exactly what the doctor ordered for LA, as they were shut out Sunday. In other words, Smyly sucks.

Well the issue there us pretteee obvious. No one swings and misses his fastball. We all knew that by the eye test, and we also knew he wasn't down on velocity Monday, at least I knew it because I pay attention to that kind of stuff. So it pisses me off 1000 times more when they make up lame excuses and try to blow it up our rear ends. God forbid they just be honest about it. They know it, Smyly knows it, and the top half of the fans who pay attention know it too. So just be honest about it, don't act like we're idiots. It's not as bad as the Tomlin thing because they never had to make up any excuses because they never got asked about. Until they IL'd him with a lame excuse of course.

Soler is sitting tonight. I'm sure it's going to be just a day of rest, and to get Rosario in the lineup. I'm all for getting Rosario as many ABs as we can. But I feel like Duvall should sit instead of Soler. We just had back-to-back days off a week ago so Soler should be fine. Soler is 7 for his last 20 with 3 HRs. Duvall is 3 for his last 16.

Ozzie is not playing tonight, Joc is leading off and Adrianza is playing 2B and batting 8th.

Ozzie took that foul ball directly off the top of his knee cap, it had to be brutal.
I remember many moons ago that Chipper took a line drive off his ankle. He left the game and missed the next two games, and I remember people giving him a hard time for not toughing it out and playing because the play didn't look all that bad. Then Chipper finally posted a picture of his leg.
