I mean, here was my line if thinking. RichRod has been excellent since acquiring him, but he's definitely hittable. He doesn't have the ahut-down stuff I'd like to see in the 9th inning -- last night was a great example, he got hit around, but got lucky with the at'em balls. In the 9th, I want K potential to minimize the risk of bad BABIP luck ruining a game.
That's why I like Ynoa. I think he has the best raw "stuff" on the team right now, and we really don't need him in the rotation. This is what the Rays did with Price and the Cardinals did with Wainwright when they were rookies. If your rotation is stacked, take the young guy with the best raw stuff and see if they can handle the 9th.
RichRod only has like 14 saves this year, in low-expectation Pitt, and wasn't a closer before 2021. So it's not like he's got this crazy amount of "9th inning experience" like Melancon had that would help me trust him more.
1. Morton 2. Fried 3. Anderson 4. Smyly 5. Toussant 6. Muller (on occasion, AAA swing man)
CL - Ynoa SU - Rodriguez SU - Matzek MR - Jackson MR - Martin MR - Smith MR - Santana MR - Minter (AAA swing man alternating Muller? LR - Chavez

Intriguing idea, but he's never closed.
I am also not sold on Touki and Muller as the 5th and 6th starters during a division battle; Especially with not having seen Anderson and his shoulder back in action.

When I saw Ynoa last year I actually thought he could be good closer material, I just can’t take a guy out of a starter role when he’s been doing well and we’re not that solid with starting pitching overall.

Unless Smith completely blows up for 3, 4, 5 games in a row, he's your closer.

I don’t agree with the money side of that deciding who does what but I feel like it’s been proven the Braves operate that way.

The money is spent either way. I'm putting the players where they need to be to give the team the best chance to win.

Bump? It's definitely the area of need, and with Anderson coming back, the rotation is strong as is:
Fried Morton Anderson Smyly Toussaint

You couldn't get Snitker to come off of Smith as his closer if you brought in any of the top 5 hall of fame closers from all of history.
But I don't see our starting pitching as solid when we would be trying to rely on both Smyly and Touki. Possibly one, but not both of them.
Plus we have Matzek, even Luke, and Rodriguez who would all be super good choices right now over Smith for closer and still keep Ynoa in the rotation as a starter.
