Acuna.
He's as lost as I've ever seen any hitter right now.

He's swinging through fastballs down the middle, swinging and missing high fastballs, whiffing breaking pitches and change ups....his contact rate (lack of contact) is alarming. And he's also taking a ton of pitches that are strikes. It's a comprehensive mindf*** right now. If a rookie came along and looked like this you'd say man we need to send this guy back down to A ball and let him regroup. We all know he's going to come out of it and rake again, but it's just gotten weird at this point to see him this messed up.

Luke gets a lot of sheet, often deservedly so, but he has pitched to a 1.93 ERA to this point. The WHIP is high, though, which is a bad sign. I do like the fact that he's a gamer. I'm not a Luke fan, either, I'm just saying that he's not all bad.

Give it some time and his ERA will climb. I like that he’s a gamer too, but he’s also plagued by the same thing most of our pitchers are, which is consistency issues. His ERA was over 6.00 during the last half of last season last year and it didn’t slow Snits love for him one bit. I expect more of the same. And apparently he’s always going to be so in love with his curve he’ll throw it six times in a row here and there and get in trouble. Walking as many as he does doesn’t help.

Thing is, his fastball is pretty good, but it's like he's afraid to throw it. Snit does love him some Luke, though, no?

At least it was encouraging that he used him properly yesterday - early with a big lead. And we have more capable options this year with Smith (once he’s back), Greene, Melancon, Martin, and maybe even Minter who looks better. Luke shows flashes of being an effective late inning guy and that’s why it’s tempting to go to him. But as it’s been mentioned, the inconsistency is extremely frustrating.

Yeah his fastball is really good, but he won’t use the curve to set up the fastball, he wants to get everybody with the curve.

Walking as many as he does doesn’t help. yeah the WHIP indicates he's pretty lucky to have a good ERA right now, also is notorious for letting inherited runners come into score, which of course the point of bringing him in is to not do that. He is a classic case of being lucky rather than good, and unfortunately his shortcomings often hurt the statlines for the pitcher he relieved. Honestly, hes more like a 4.5 or 5 ERA guy, his numbers make him look far better than he actually is.

I love his stuff, but he is JAG because he can't locate it and seems to be clueless on how to use one pitch to set up another.

No goats today, folks. Wright and Melancon flirted with goathood, but they were able to dodge it.
