Me,,,,, I watched until the third and it was 1-1. I had to leave and when I return in the 9th, the score was a whole bunch to not enough. Probably my fault for leaving.

Seitzer for all the K's?
Acuna? He's 1/9 so far with 6 K's.

We sure do have a lot of low contact hitters in our lineup, but Acuña should come around.

Newcomb.
Still as a world of upside but looking more and more like we'll never see it on a consistent enough basis. He's struggled with that control all through the minors and now the big leagues too.

Yeah, it's similar to Folty. There's a mental block, lack of confidence, or something. Newk throws way too many pitches, and he's his own worst enemy. He always has that "deer in the headlights" look about him. He's 27 years old now, so it's time for him to step up. We really need him to be good.

As much as I don't care for him, Sutcliffe made some good point about kids like Newk and Folty. He said the issue is they have no concept of throwing a pitch at 75-85% of max effort. When he pitched reaching back for 100%, all out, was something good pitchers only did a few times a game. They controlled the ball because they were throwing between 75-95% of that most of the time and they didn't get lit up because varying that effort actually enabled them to have a repertoire of 12 pitches. They had the 86, 90, 93 mph fastballs and the 77, 82, and 84 mph slider, and so on and so on. They pitched to contact because they knew the speed differences would keep batters off stride. (Maddux and Glavine, yeah?)
He said these guys pitch like they are terrified of contact and are trying to make every pitch either unhittable or batter chase way out of the zone. Even when they have to throw a strike they are close to max effort and have little control. The only time they are not doing this is when it's almost a certainty the batter is taking.

I can agree with all that, and the really stupid thing is they all have good enough stuff they should trust it but they won’t. It makes me want to vomit that a bunch of soft tossers have had really long solid careers because they just understood keeping hitters off balance, then you get these guys with electric stuff who can’t make it because they won’t trust it and can’t learn to adjust.

The pitching mound for almost injuring Soroka.
Not exactly what we need right now.
