That's 6 position player spots and 1 pitcher. They will need to pay a lot of other players. 5 more starters, a few of which will be getting arb raises... the reliever staff... and the 3 more roster spots and a bench.
I'm all for signing Fried, but if Dodd and Shuster look good and you have Elder and some others you haven't given up on, then it becomes a legit question of whether you should pay him what he will command. The Braves have a certain formula they follow here. I love Fried, but I know how the organization operates and I have yet to see them sign the sort of pitching contract I think he will want.

I think that's accurate, and the way AA has operated has been to pick up a guy like Morton or Donaldson and I know there's a few others, to fill in needs with good veteran presents players short term, as opposed to signing the big dollar deals. And since Olson and Riley have signed pretty big deals (for us) I can't see us doing any more of those. Spending a lot of money on just a few players is the quickest way to get yourself in big and long term trouble. If it works out and you win a World Series or two it was worth it, but that rarely happens.

There is no hard cap in baseball. As long as there are big time expensive players out there i.e. Turner, Harper, Tatis, deGrom, etc... big market teams will be willing to sign them and be willing to pay the luxury tax. Winning supercedes budget in their mind... and whoever doesn't believe that is deluding themselves. You think Cohen and Middleton are calling their financial advisors about the prudence of spending all of this money? It's the one sport that allows you to buy anybody and spend as much as you want. I can tell you that here in Philly, the attitude is that deep pockets can outspend and erase any mistakes and damn be the consequences...

Yeah... and those teams have had such success with that attitude.

Yeah... and those teams have had such success with that attitude. Oh look, it’s the good old dejatard whining all over again about money for the 12,000th time. I like the smugness, him acting like he’s the only one who “gets it” when in fact he’s the only one who doesn’t get it. And never will because he’s too thick headed. Sure, all of us would love to have a $600M payroll, but it’s never going to happen no matter how much anyone cries about it, and it doesn’t guarantee you anything even if you do it. Big money has won very little over the last 40 years in baseball compared to moderate payroll teams. But whatever, let’s go back to beating that stupid dead horse again tomorrow.

Not sure how you were treated as a child, but you seem to have a mania for attempting to be smartest guy in the room...at all times. And when you're not, you resort to ad hominem commentary. You calling me "smug", "dejatard" is a trigger touchy feely problem you have when another poster makes a legitimate point that you can't argue on point. The fact is that there is no hard cap. And the person with the most money gets what they want...whether you like it or not. You seem to be obsessed with the luxury tax. Some aren't. Get over it.

I'm not sure how you were treated as a child, but it's actually sad to see a grown man obsess day and night (for 20+ years and running) over something he has zero control over. Your parents didn't raise you more sensibly than that? I actually feel bad for you, and the fact that obviously they never spent all their money on you at Christmas every year and then had to listen to you whine about not getting what you wanted.
There's so many things wrong with your post it's laughable, and not even worth my time to break it all down. All of it has been hashed over thousands of times, and you're just never going to get it.
When it comes to the concept of the person with the most money gets what they want, lol, that's hilarious because in baseball what those guys want is championships, so they spent their money, and guess what they don't get? What they wanted.
Back to ignore for you, this time I'm not going to even read your posts when other people quote them. You're nothing but a waste of time. You don't exist anymore. Poof! Gone!
