Adam Duvall reportedly declines mutual option
Outfielder Adam Duvall is one of three Atlanta Braves players that had some sort of contract option for the 2022 season. Duvall signed a one-year deal with the Marlins last offseason contained a mutual option for $7 million in 2022. That means that both Duvall and the Braves would have to agree to exercise the option or pay a $3 million buyout. Craig Mish reported Thursday afternoon that Duvall has declined his mutual option for next season. With the season Duvall had in 2021, he should not have any trouble finding more money on the open market if he makes it there. Mish also reported that Duvall is arbitration eligible and the Braves can tender him a contract. If they elect to do so, then they could continue to negotiate with Duvall up until an arbitration hearing where his salary would be set. MLB Trade Rumors projects Duvall for a $9.1 million salary through arbitration. That was a scenario that I didn’t discuss in our roster breakdown from earlier today because it was unclear whether or not Duvall was actually arbitration eligible. The Braves were in a similar situation with Chris Martin a couple of years back. It appears that we now have our answer and Atlanta will have 14 arbitration eligible players. www.talkingchop.com/2021/11/4/22763704/atlanta-braves-offseason-adam-duvall-reportedly-declines-mutual-option

Matt Chrietzberg @bravesmattc Duvall turns down his side of the $7M option while MLBTR has his arb value at $9.1M. I can see AA working out a one-year deal with an option in the $8-9M range before the CBA expires. Duvall could open 2022 at any of the OF spots depending on Acuña’s recovery.

I like Duvall, but I wish he were a little less of an all-or-nothing hitter. He is what he is at this stage of his career. I assume we keep him. I think he probably had a career year RBI wise, too.

I could be wrong, but it seems like even if the Braves tender Duvall a contract he can still opt out, even if it goes to arbitration. If that is the case there's no way he's agreeing to a one year deal with us for $9.1M.
It's really going to suck if we don't learn anything about wife beater's situation until it's too late to make moves accordingly, but I have a sinking feeling it's understood we aren't going to get out of his contract. We would have to pay him to get out of it which I would think is possible. Once the felony charges were dropped it changed the whole game.

I would make re-signing Frederick and keeping Rosario my priorities. If I could get Soler as well then that would be great.
If I had to let Adam go because of that, then I would. If getting both Rosario and Soler is not going to be feasible even with the money freed up from Duvall (and projected future revenue), then tendering Duvall becomes a good fallback option for a guy that gives plus defense on the corners.
I'm not ready to count on Pache, and I am not sure Snit is the type of manager to make the best use of a guy like him anyway. Like it or not, the best thing we can do for Snitker is providing him with mashers.

That’s insane. Now, if it was Terrance Gore, I could understand it, but how do you not recognize Tyler Freakin Matzek?

David O'Brien @dobrienatl #Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos on Freddie Freeman, whom he said will get a qualifying offer today as a procedural move: "We love him. He's great. We want him to stay. He wants to stay...Our goal is to sign him and keep him a Brave. That's probably all I can say at this point."

David O'Brien @dobrienatl Austin Riley is expected to be Super 2 arb-eligible, Alex Anthopoulos said. (And how 'bout these stats to take to first-time arb -- .303/.367/.531 w/ 33 doubles, 33 homers,107 RBIs, 6.1 WAR, .132 OPS+ in 160 games.

Braves: Contingency plans if Freddie Freeman walks in free agencyEven though Braves country remains champagne drunk after their first World Series title in 26 years, Freddie Freeman‘s free agency still looms over the franchise. Personally, I believe that Freeman will be back with the Braves. However, there’s still the possibility that he walks away as a champion and a franchise legend. So if that happens, where could the Braves turn? The Free Agency Band-Aid This isn’t a strong free agent class with a talent anywhere close to that of Freeman, but there should be a few names that could immediately serve as a stop gap in an attempt to put a band-aid over a bullet hole. Among the names that make the most sense are Brandon Belt and Anthony Rizzo. Both are big left-handed bats that can provide some middle-of-the-order power. Brad Miller fits that mold as well. Perhaps the Braves could also experiment with moving a guy like Kyle Seager to first base. And although he has never played the position, Nick Castellanos moving to first is an interesting idea that would be pretty off the wall. But regardless, in free agency, there’s no way the Braves are going to replace Freeman’s production. The Big Trade As reported this week, the Oakland A’s are preparing for another big sell-off: If Freeman leaves, in my opinion, the Braves HAVE to pony up some prospects for Matt Olson. In 2021, Olson slashed .271/.371/.540/.911 with 35 doubles, 39 home runs, and 88 walks. His left-handed bat would absolutely play at Truist Park, leaving craters in the Chop House 81 games out of the year. Even though it would be a gut punch to lose Freeman, Olson would fit in seamlessly and provide an immediate power upgrade at first base. He’d also come at a fraction of the price. Olson’s estimated arbitration figure for 2022 is $12 million. He’ll be due for a raise in 2023, but it still will be a fraction of the commitment that the Braves would have to give to Freeman. www.sportstalkatl.com/braves-contingency-plans-if-freddie-freeman-walks-in-free-agency/
